19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

Both players traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional title, gained dominance to force a final set.

He saved 4 early-game chances in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
